Art Ordering FAQs

Last Updated: 2022-03-10

Here are some commonly asked questions when it comes to ordering custom art on CE. If you have more questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of our staff for further help!

Where Can I Place my Art Order?
In the forums toward the bottom of the page, there is a topic called "Art Depot." In this topic, there are three subtopics in which to create your order: the Breed Orders topic is where you will create a new thread for your breed order; the Genetic Orders topic is where you will place orders for custom orders or recolors of pre-existing genetics; and the Wearable Orders is where you can create orders for new wearables for the item shops or for your custom breed.

Who Will Pick Up My Order?
Here is a list of our current artists on staff:

All new breeds and new genetic types: @ellastasia
New genetic types: @Evi
All recolors and body markings: @Desideria @Evi @ellastasia @schwabelle @jericho

Orders will be picked up by one of the preceding artists listed above! They will reply to your forum post with the order price and with any questions they may have about your order.

Can I Order Recolors for Pre-existing Public Genetics?
Yes! Recolors of pre-existing public genetics, and celestial shop items, to include genetics, wearables, armor, etc., is allowed!

Cash shop items cannot be recolored.

Can I Order Recolors of Private Genetics?
No. Private genetics have been commissioned by a player and have been marked as a private genetic for personal use only by the commissioner.

How Much Do Recolors Cost?
Recolors of pre-existing genetics begin from $8 and up, depending upon the complexity of the order, and how many recolors are requested.

How Much Will My New Breed Cost?
New breeds generally begin from $100 and up. Breeds are priced accordingly to the amount of genetics, as well as the complexity involved, so please consider that when placing your order!

How Will I Pay for My Order?
Celestial Equine will bill the commissioner via a Paypal invoice. You do not need a Paypal account for this, but please be sure that the email you signed up with is up to date, or you reach out to the artist who gave the quote with a preferred email. An admin may contact you for further information if needed.

50% of the invoice will be required up front before the order is started, and the remaining 50% of the invoice will be required upon the order completion. Only when the order is 100% paid will the order be activated on the site.

How Long Will It Take for My Order to be Picked Up?
A site artist will typically pick up your order to quote within 24-72 hours.

How Long will it Take for My Order to be Completed?
Depending upon the size of the order, it can take up to 2 weeks for an order to be completed once started. Please bear in mind that there may be a queue for art orders, and your order may not be started as soon as it is placed.

Typical breed orders take 1-2 weeks. Genetic and wearable orders take around a week or less once they are commenced by the artist. Some orders, depending upon its complexity, can take more than 2 weeks to be completed.

What Happens When the Artist Starts my Order?
1) Quoting Process

All orders should be placed in the appropriate category of the forums. For example, a new breed order would be posted in the "Custom Breeds Order" forum.

Order forms should be filled out in their entirety and as detailed as possible. This is vital for the quoting process. Concepts should be fully imagined and described for accurate quoting.

2) Artist Quote + Player Agreement

Artists will provide a quote along with the hourly breakdown for each gene. Breakdowns include hours estimated for painting the initial WIP, transferring to the 9 other bases, and then uploading the genes/creating the items. CE artists quote at a rate of $20 per hour, as this is highly skilled labor.

Our goal is to create exactly what the player has imagined and completely understand there are times where extra time is needed. Exceeding allocated hours for the initial WIP is allowed, but please note that the player will be billed for any additional hours required.

3) Initial Painting

After the 50% deposit has been paid, your artist will start rendering your piece. The first phase of the rendering is sketch mock-ups. Once the sketch is approved, the initial painting is completed on the Quarter Horse base for preview and approval. Upon completion of the full design, your artist will begin coloring. No changes can be made after coloring has began. Each recolor will be sent for approval/edits on the Quarter Horse base.

Initial gene rendering from start to finish accounts for 30-40% of the actual time spent on the creation of a genetic.

4) Transferring + Saving Files

Once a genetic and all associated recolors have been approved, your artist will then begin transferring to the other 9 bases. This process includes modifying each gene to not only fit the base, but edited to appear the same across the 10 bases. Keep in mind slight color variations occur with body colors due to the original color of each base.

After the genes have been fitted to each base, your artist will then save each image individually, per base. For example, a new set of wings requires a front image and a back image for 10 bases, which means 20 images saved individually. This is the most time consuming portion of the transfer process.

5) Uploading Genes + Creating items

The remaining 50% of the balance is due before your artist begins the uploading and item creation process.

When your files have been saved accordingly, your artist will now start the process of creating your brand-new genotypes in the database! This involves inputting all information regarding the gene type, gene name, private/public status, and connecting it to the correct players via permissions. Your artist will then upload your image to each base and then repeat this process per genetic to create your item.

Uploading a gene + creating an item takes between 30 minutes to 1 hour (1 hour for genes with multiple layers, such as a mane with front and back layers).

All sales are final when ordering custom genetics, wearables, and/or breeds.
